Cherishing a deep desire to advance worldwide kosen-rufu, President Ikeda inaugurates the First World Peace Conference on January 26, 1975 in Guam, a territory that had witnessed intense fighting during World War II, and the Soka Gakkai International is established as an international body with Shin’ichi as its President.

Shin’ichi engages in dialogues with Chinese Vice Premier Deng Xiaoping, Japanese political leaders Eisaku Sato, and Takeo Fukuda as well as Club of Rome co-founder Aurelio Peccei. Shin’ichi’s travels for peace then bring him to the Soviet Union where he meets with Premier Aleksey Kosygin and other Soviet leaders.

He is awarded an honorary doctorate from the prestigious Moscow State University, where he also delivers a lecture titled ‘A New Road to East-West Cultural Exchanges’, stating that modern-day cultural exchange is a kind of “spiritual Silk Road”, linking East and West, North and South.
